There are always things to be gleaned from these original packages and the one that immediately jumped out at me was the condition of the stocks.
Several years ago, there were a couple of threads that went back and forth over whether some stocks had been recut or were original. At least two of the (then) resident stock experts claimed that a pair that were up for sale were refurbished and based their opinions on the quality of the margin cuts as well as whether there were checkering cut marks on the outside margin. The owner swore they were original and had owned the stocks for many decades. However, he was eventually shamed into withdrawing his item for sale after being repeatedly bashed.
John's gun shows that, while the woodwork was really good, it wasn't perfect. Strike marks in the last photo on the bottom edge of the margin are evident as well as along the belly of the margin on the left side of the picture.
Just thought it was worth pointing out.
