Once or twice a week I go to the range with five handguns, some ammo, and the usual stuff (glasses, ears, etc.). The largest is my S&W 629 Competitor. The smallest is my Charter Arms .44 special. I cram it all into an old canvas carry bag that I used at one time for cameras and lenses. I'd like to get a backpack. Some that I've seen on Amazon (G.P.S. Handgunner, Case Club Tactical) seem nice, but the comments imply that they do not fit full sized handguns in their gun slots. I would be OK with carrying the 629 separately if the case could easily fit my Colt 1911, my Charter Arms .44, my Walter/Colt 1911, etc. Does anyone have any recommendations?

It's nice because you can put everything in it. But I don't like it because it's too damn heavy.

I limit myself to two carry items when I go to the range. I carry a large range bag that can hold five or six handguns as well as eye and ear protection and I carry a large ammo box for ammo.

This works for me unless we go on an all day outing up in the mountains which requires a few more ammo boxes and another range bag.

Personally, I would just get gun rugs for each gun and put them, with all your other gear, in a large, generic backpack.

I max out at 3 guns per range trip. I carry one gun on me in my holster and the other two fit in a small, foam-lined hardcase. I can fit the case, eyes, ears, hat, ammo (roughly 200 rounds max in 50-round boxes), target supplies (paper, index cards, mailing labels, masking tape), a rag for wiping down the guns, magazines, speedloaders, strips, and my screwdriver kit in a standard backpack.

I have one like in Kanewpadle’s photo. I can’t get a 6” barrel in there, and my 325 or 625 is a bit of a squeeze. Great for 1911s and revolvers with 4” barrel, though. Lots of compartments, and has 12 magazine loops that fit 1911 mags perfectly.

TWICE A WEEK?

Less guns, or someone to carry them all for you. :D An unwritten "rule" at my club is that the RO's prefer a 3 gun limit. A bench cluttered with 5 guns/mags/ammo is harder & more time consuming for them to make sure ALL are cleared & safe during a ceasefire. TEHO, but I kinda agree, 3 seems to be a good # for me. YES, I've brought more and less. :)

I used to carry a shoulder range bag a carry a metal ammo can but now I use a small Samsonite roller bag.
I use the same type of rolling luggage. It's designed to go under airline seats. Mine's sold by Costco for $25 under the name Ciao. Beats carrying all that weight, especially ammo.
