If somebody is visiting from out of state, and brings with them a gun that you want to buy, can you buy the gun from them? Can you go to a local FFL and have him do the transfer just as if it was shipped to him?

Just curious.

handgun buying

In the State of Florida, If you are purchasing from a private individual, he or she must be a resident of the same state where the purchase was made (or the transfer was made through an FFL in the purchaser's home state), and the purchaser must be at least 18 years of age. Another requirement of any purcdhase or recipt of firearms or ammunition -- no matter who you get it from -- is that you don't have a Felony conviction where the "possible" imprisonment (imposed or not) was over one year, or a misdemeanor conviction where the possible imprisonment (imposed or not) was over two years.

Also, even if you take it to an FFL, it may not be an "in and out" transaction- some localities require the dealer to hold it for a certain mandated period while the serial number is run to be certain it is not stolen, etc. This may be a state, county or city law or ordinance- check with the dealer first.

Also, check you dealer for the cost of this- dealers can be all over the map- some may charge $20 for this service, while another dealer up the street may want $100! Let your fingers do the walking on the phone. ;)
