Handgun for Whitetail... *** Update in post 65 ***

Just bought the Aimtech no tap mount. Same thing that jcelect posted earlier in the thread. Also grabbed up a Galco leather chest holster. Now for ammo and testing. :)

Edit: Just got a bunch of Cor-Bon 240 Gr JHP. These ought to do the trick.

As an Ohioan I would suggest what ever you can shoot offhand
the best that makes the legal minimums ...
As a new/to you gun,how about a Contender...
[ my dream gun is n 8 to 10 inch 357mag cut to max with a 1 to 2
power scope with red dot ,,, light -easy to carry- good speed and
scary accurate]

Picked up the gun today. Took it to the indoor range to shoot before the scope got mounted. It's dead on accurate with Magnum ammo and shoots a bit high with Special ammo. Put on the scope mount and red/green dot tonight. Next will be sighting it in with iron and glass at 50 yards. Then it's hunting season. :)

Just be aware that those types of mounts will mark up the finish on your revolver. Frankly with the kind of wear that a Hunting firearm sees in normal use I wouldn't be the least bit concerned about it value as a collectable and would have it drilled and tapped for a standard rail. As for why that is an advantage take a look at the following image. Those are J Point Reflex sights and with the direct adapter modifying a standard Galco OWB holster to accept the sight was a 5 minute task using an Exacto knife.
