I am looking for suggestions on how to hang my new AR 8 inch / 3/8th inch thick steel pistol target. Using what I had lying around I drove a shepards hook in the ground and hung the steel plate (only has one hole) with a clothes line rope. First few shots were great fun however issues quickly arose with my temporary setup. The rope has already frayed and the target spins like crazy when struck by bullets. I'm looking for a safe, durable method to hang the plate so the bullets are deflected downwards and the plate doesn't spin. Ideas are appreciated.

Thanks

If you have a welder you can make what I use . All that you need is some scrap pipe, metal plate, and some old heavy chain. I have been shooting at this setup for a few years and it has held up very well.

Many ways to 'hang' that target. But, however you accomplish that, be double sure that the face of the target is always pitched slightly off of vertical with the top closer to you than the bottom. This give a vector to bullet splash back directing it into the ground and not back at the shooter.

I have a serious anomaly on my chin resulting from a hit of molten lead coming back at me from an improperly hung steel target.

Big Cholla brings to light a great point about shooting at steel. Thanks. In pictures I posted you can see I welded the top of steel tab of target to front on chain which gives it a natural pitch that you pointed out. Very important.

Hang'm At This Angle

Google shootingtargets7 I use his steel targets and he furnishes
the bolts and nuts to hang the targets so they hang at the proper
angle that forces the bullets into the ground in front. Now, he sells these so cheap it'd likely cost you more at ACE.
I'm sure he'd sell just the bolts, nuts and washers. Really simple.
G'luck and stay safe
