The price was $1095 and the LGS wouldn't budge. They had it marked as a 29-3. It's actually a 29-4. Appeared to be in near-new condition with pachmeyers. It came with the correct era blue and white box with s&w paper inside but the box has no markings to indicate what gun it matches. I doubt s&w would have shipped this gun with pachs but it's no matter to me. They were swapped out for a nice set of combats I had at home.

A 4 inch model 29. There's worse birthday presents to be sure. You could say it cost me a pretty nickel. But in light of my recent milestone birthday I decided to splurge and buy myself something pretty.

I got it to the range and as you would expect, it shot great with a variety of my special and magnum hand loads.

Hope you all have a pleasant day.

Mike

S&W would have shipped the 29-4 with Goncalo Alves target stocks, so the rubber stocks are not original. The box without its label might be the original box, but it might also be just a box that happens to fit a 4 inch Model 29. At $1100 it is certainly not the deal of the century, but I'd say you did not get taken to the cleaners. 4-inch Model 29's are popular, especially these days, and if that is a factory nickel finish, it adds to the desirability. I think you got a reasonable deal on a high grade, nickel plated shooter grade Model 29.

Happy Birthday, and congratulations on acquiring your beautiful 4" Model 29-4! The combat stocks look great, too. Although I'm generally a P&R kind of guy, that revolver is definitely a nice piece! Your purchase price might have been a little high (29-4 ca. 1988-1990) without original GA target stocks, but in a year or so the value will appreciate and you'll be glad you bought it. Enjoy!

Thank you for your thoughts on box, stocks and value. I concur on everything you said. This is my first nickeled gun, so the first one I've seen up close. I do believe it to be factory original. N stamped on cylinder face. Blued extractor. No refinish markings or dates on the grip frame.

Is there also an "N" also stamped on the left side of the grip frame, near the bottom edge?

Thanks Hawg Rider. I respect the P&R thing but I wouldn't let their absence deter me from an otherwise great N frame. A 4 inch 29 deserves a mulligan! I also own a sweet 4 inch 27-3 blued.

Yes, it was difficult to get a clear picture but here's the left grip frame.

Highly polished blued firearms are hard enough to properly photograph, but polished nickel plated firearms can be very challenging. Yep, I see the big "N", it's a legit factory finish. Congratulations!
