Do any of you know how to get the trigger guard back on the 4th model DA? I can't get the front tab down and into the slot. I used a rubber padded clamp, but can't go back quite far enough, and then it has to go down. I guess the V-shaped spring's "V" faces the front? Thanks.

trigger guard installation

They are not easy to re-install. I do not know what double action you have but they are pretty much the same. The "V", closed portion, end of the spring sits toward the front of the gun. I would fit the trigger guard first, then place the spring on the guard and move it in place. Be aware, the front sits on a tab and must stay in place while you force the trigger guard to the forward position. Sometimes, I good blow, with a plastic or hardwood mallet will seat the trigger guard while you are holding pressure on the trigger guard to give it that extra force to secure the guard on the gun. You can order David Chicoine book on antique forearms assembly/disassembly for step by step instruction on these type of tip-ups, top breaks and the other antique firearms for disassembly.

not functioning

I bought the book, which is really good, but it doesn't show anything about whether the trigger spring just sits in there as you reinstall the trigger guard, or if it goes into any particular area of the trigger. It was functioning fine until I accidentally knocked off the trigger guard. If I set the spring in there the cylinder won't rotate, and double action doesn't work. I'm doing something wrong, but can't figure it out.

I had the same problem and had been searching the web for 3 weeks trying to find out how and in doing so I realized why most of these pistols gave broken V springs. I finally got it installed yesterday and registered here to let you know how I did it. first off the trigger guard is seated in the front first and then squeezed together to seat in the back (like squeezing the open end of a C) what I did was to take a zip tie and hold the trigger as far back as possible so I had room to work. then without the V spring in place I set the trigger guard a couple of times just to make sure I knew how it would move. place the V spring where side sits on the tab at the top of trigger assy then gently pop the other side under the trigger - try to keep it as far to rear of the pistol as you can as it tries to move forward when you seat the guard. you have to position the guard around the trigger so you can move it up and down. place it over the V spring and with the back of the guard up push the front down into the slot if it wont go then your spring has moved forward so re adjust and try again. once it seats squeeze the guard and move the back into position. I would take pictures and send them to you but I aint taking it off again! good luck

Thank you much. I figured it out. If I told you how I got in this predicament I'd be run out of Dodge!
