Looking for suggestions.
Bonehead move- heavy sofa pushed across Hickory hardwood floor. Plastic legs on sofa created white scuff/scratch marks on floor. Looking online I find recommendations ranging from WD40 to various wood floor “restorers” and scratch removers with vastly differing reviews on customers results.
Any help appreciated.

I would think it would depend on your floors finish. If it was finished with an oil finish something like Murphys should work. I did mine in Oak and finished it with 3 coats of poly urethane. I get a scuff I can usually buff it out with a Scotchbrite pad. If not I wait until I am going to be gone for a day or so then hit the are around it with a belt sander and 220 grit, then a coat of Poly.

Steelslaver is correct! It really depends on what finish your floor has. Different brands, quality or when it was made can and does determine what product it was finished with. If you know the manufacturer or retailer, a call to him might help. Sometimes finishes of different types "play" with each other and sometimes they do not! Again, the manufacturer would know best.

Sometimes scratches are removed by filling in and sometimes by sanding out and refinishing. It depends on how deep it goes and what your skill level and patience level is......

Other times a scratch is not removed - just "hidden" by turning the scratched area the same color and texture as the rest of the floor. Even though technically the scratch might still be there, it can be very hard to discern.

I've used white vinegar with success.

Go to Lowes and get a can of Restor-A -Finish in the closest shade. Follow directions on the can and this will probably remove the white streaks without disturbing the original finish! This is the most straight forward answer I can give you.
