Harvest Time!

Actually my least favorite part of reloading but the bucket was running over. Got back all of my .45 and then some, a goodly amount of cast-off .38 and .357, a surprising pile of .44, a bunch of 40 and of course, enough 9 to last through the 'Pocky-Lypse.

Tomorrow I sort the .45 by large primer/small primer and commence making some magic!

Nice brass stash! I just finished cleaning up 1100 pieces of 357 magnum myself. Thanks to Maine winters and lack of range time, I've got all my brass ready so I just have to: expand, prime, powder, and seat bullets. Almost 1500 9mm, 1300 45acp, 1200 38 special.

I shoot a lot at a particular indoor range and in addition to reclaiming my own brass I may pick up "a little extra". The bucket represents about a year's worth.
There have been discussions in the past concerning 45 acp and small primers and every time I sort my brass I find more and more SP 45. (This is old news and a lot of reloaders have been cursing under their breath and tossing the SP 45 cases.) But this time round I found an interesting fact:

I sorted and cleaned all of the LP/SP 45 acp last night into three piles:
(1) Blazer is all SP (and is in no way "Green" or "Lead Free")
(2) Federal is a mixed bag
(3) Everything else is LP

Then the Federal was further sorted by SP/LP.

I had about 1000 rounds total (I'll know exactly how many by the end of day today when they're all loaded) and for the first time
THERE WAS MORE SMALL PRIMER BRASS THAN LARGE PRIMER.

Not a problem, per se. I load it same-same and it shoots same-same. If I miss one in the press it is no more of a disaster than finding a .380 when loading 9mm - just remove the offending case and get on down the road.

I guess I'm posting this so some of you may rethink your "toss-it-and-forget-it" position because there's a train a'coming and we can't stop it.

Agree with you on the 45 brass. I have found a limited amount of SP, which has all been Federal--so I just set it aside. Sometimes I think it would be nicer if it was all SP, then I would not have to buy different primers, as I load 9mm & 38 Special too.

The vast majority of SP I have is Blazer brand (from CCI/Speer). It is a big seller in central Ohio, in all calibers.

That 45 SP train I ain't boarding. I have 15 gallons of 45 LP, adequate supply of 44 mag, and a dedicated large primer Dillon 550B.

At 6:35 PM EST, the top of my reloading bench was clean. Time to start pulling the ammo crank!
