I seem to recall they had some that were anodised ,different shades (colors) doubt if that is "brass"...appears to be one of them 'non' blackened ( anodised) models,in fact the later #10's were an "A", they were improved?? upon.............brass would be very heavy and too soft of material.
Could have been "promotional " models?? salesmans, "samples"??

Well, without hefting it I'm gonna go out on a limb by the look of the photo and say it's aluminum and has been anodized with a brass-like coating.

If it was brass it would be quite heavy for it's size and the scratches on it wouldn't show silver/gray underneath . . . .

These were aluminum and coated with the 'gold colored' anodizing. These were the very early ones. But, the push was already on to make things lighter and lighter so they developed a very tough plastic black body. When an LEO was carrying around 25 or so pounds on their gun belt everything you could do to reduce that weight was important. I carried 4 loader and very quickly changed over to the plastic bodied loaders after doing several "Drop Tests" to make sure they were tough enough to take the beating of Duty use.

The HKS do ok on the drop test, but they don't do so well on the pick-up test IMHO. Too easy for the knob to twist when being picked up, spilling the rounds out. I much prefer the Safariland design. YMMV.

Same here.... haven't used the HKS anytime there was a Safariland Comp II in that size.
