You can, many have, although it is not necessary. The semi auto carrier that comes in S&W rifles is good quality.

The biggest benefit is cleaning times with a NiB/DLC/chrome BCG. I spend about an hour on a regular BCG to clean all the carbon off after shooting. A coated BCG takes about 10 minutes, if that.

An m16 style carrier is slightly heavier than an ar15 carrier.

Some say the extra weight helps smooth out the cyclic rate somewhat, but I haven't really noticed a difference. The biggest difference is choosing a bcg with a coating, as already mentioned. Will make your cleanup time much shorter.

Now, I'm not going to say not to buy one, because I did, and do not regret it. But you don't really need one. There's nothing wrong with the AR-15 style BCG in a kazillion AR's running out there right now.

If you search, there are a few threads on it, but we've hit the high points already.

I'd like to be able to answer the question if I knew what it was, but I find the original post without punctuation or capitalization impossible to read, let alone comprehend.

My name is John. I'm a recovering AR-15 mod-a-holic. :D

15-Sport = FailZero Nickel Boron Semi-Auto BCG. The Nickel Boron treatment allows me to run without lube. Clean up is a quick wipe with a rag.

Homebuilt = PSA Full Auto BCG. I originally bought the full auto BCG for a 300 BLK build, but started to recover from the AR-15 disease. I popped it into my home built AR-15. First pull of the trigger = short cycle.

<slaps head> I left the H2 buffer in. Pop back in the carbine buffer and all is well.

If you want to slow down your action, a H2 buffer is the least expensive option and does the job. Good luck with your mods!

Im sorry for the punctuation im posting from my phone because kids dropped my ipad and my phones beat too spend too much money on my gear and not my electronics haha well both my sports are running perfectly now so i mean i dont want mess with the cyclic rate of The gun i think im going purchase another semi auto bcg just to have another on hand thank you guys for the replies i appreciate it

In addition to my Sport I have 5 S&W revolvers and a Walther made 22 pistol sold as a S&W. All are good quality firearms. My revolvers are one of the reasons I bought a Sport.

Just because the Sport is basic and inexpensive doesn't mean it is not quality. I think S&W specified individual parts to make sure the Sport first, functions reliably and second, is accurate. If anything, I think S&W used the least quality parts where owners are most likely to change parts to make the carbine more personal- hand guards, buttstocks, grips, and rear sights. Why pay a lot for something you're likely to change out anyway?

Typing on a phone isn't the best, I agree. In fact I was typing my reply above on my phone and missed your last post! FWIW, I think an extra BCG could always come in handy.

One question, what is a BCG? I'm thinking bolt carrier group. Newb question I know.

While the M16 carrier is considered a necessity in some circles, you can get the same overall reciprocating weight with an H buffer, as JaPes noted. In addition, should you get a double (two rounds fired, one trigger pull) with an M16 carrier in place and the wrong person hear it, you could earn yourself very unwelcome attention from the BATFE. Depending upon state law, possibly local attention.

You'll probably never wear out a carrier. Spare extractor, spring and plug and/or spare bolt assembly (verify correct headspace) instead. Much cheaper too.

agreed....it's solid, and mine at least is staked properly. I am curious about how M&P would run with a full auto BCG. OP, why don't you throw down for one and let us know ;)

No excuse. Phones have periods available to use, all of them. Pagers had them for crying out loud. This is a respectable forum, act respectable! (This post, as are a very large chunk of mine, is from a phone)

As to your issue, you won't gain anything with a full auto bcg. If you are intent on replacing it, having one with a nice coating is going to get you more for your money.

Good luck and happy shooting.
