Have 3913, should I add a 6906?

I picked up a 3913 about a month ago and have a 5906 on the way. I got the 3913 because I wanted a small, thin 9mm for CCW. I have no issues with it in that regard. The only change I've made is I'm trying out the Hogue grips on it.

I'm picking up the 5906 mainly to have full-size 9mm for the range or HD. I'm now wondering about the 6906.

I know it's basically a 5906 with a 1/2" shorter barrel and shorter grip, but practically speaking, how different is it from the 3913 as a carry piece. I know the grip is wider, so apparently is the frame. Can anyone who has, or has had both, comment on how much those differences actually amount to when handling or carrying?

Thanks.

I carry a CS9, 908 or 6906 just depending on what I'm wearing and my mood. All have lasers on them and all fit the same leather. Manual of arms is the same so there' no fumbling there. The CS9 will accept the larger (+1) 908/39xx magazines which is what I usually carry with the CS9. The double-stack 6906 will accept the 59xx mags or you can add plus 2 extenders on the 6906 mags.

The 6906 is only 1/4 inch thicker so I find that in practice it doesn't print any more than the single stacks. The main difference is in the weight and how much I'm willing to carry that day.

The CS9 is just short enough that it fits easily in the cargo pocket of the shorts I wear all summer. The secret there is to put it in a floppy pocket holster and put that in the M16 mag pocket inside the cargo pocket so it all doesn't flop around.

I find it easier to think of the 6906 as a 3913 double stack so it has fatter grips, but is other wise the same. Just about any holster that fits a 3913 will fit a 6906, the difference being that the grips are fatter.

Technically, the 6906 should be the 6913, since the frame is aluminum alloy and not stainless as the xxx6 guns are supposed to be.

I bought a s&w 6906 as my first smith auto, then I got a cs9 in black. I love to carry both. I bought a 469 that is black, but it is basically the same as the 6906 and it has the flaw that caused them to be recalled in 1987. I haven't shot it yet, I am going to send it to s&w. I'm wanting to get a 3913 or a 3914. I've been bidding on them but they've been going to high. I did get the bid on another cs9 stainless with less than a hundred rds. in box. Gets addictive doesn't it?

I have the same, cant't go wrong there, just get it you won't regret it.

You might as well buy it. You're hooked now anyway.;)

I have a 6906 (and others) and my 3913 is flatter obviously. I tend to carry it more, simply because it's easier to do so.

I like the 6906 because it is a very nice overall size. It's small enough to do CCW well, and still brings hi-capacity to the party. With the 5906 mags and spacers, it's a nice size gun for service use. With the alloy frame, it's lighter than my 5906, and more compact than my 5904.

For some folks, the bigger 5906 and smaller 3913 will cover all bases. I can't argue with that logic, as it rings true. It's just that the 6906 can flex well into any tasking. It's just a darn nice gun to have.

Besides, you need more third gen autos. You know it.

If you feel like you need to carry a gun that will hold more rounds, then get the 6906. Best of luck and hope it works out.

That's what I'm thinking and making me question whether I need a 6906.;)

The 6906 will work (slightly) better as a carry pistol than the 5906 will, but really, if you can afford it, just do it. Which, coming to a S&W forum and asking whether you should buy another S&W, is pretty much what you expected to hear, right? ;-)
I carry a 469 - 2nd gen, same dimensions as the 6906. I like the grip, especially now that I got Pachmayr grips for it, it fits my hands perfectly. Others might find it a bit big, and for them obviously the single stacks will work better.

of all my 3rd gens
I started with a 6906 and I think my favorite is still the 6906
4013 and 3913 are close though

I had a 3913, and a 4013 and I loved them. Then I bought a shorty forty and 6906. I no longer have either the 3913 or 4013. Still excellent guns, I just like the bigger grip better.
