Hello Everyone, I am Jim from NE Ga and I came here to do a little research on the M&P 15T I just ordered from Buds Gun Shop. First off, lots of great info here, fun site! Secondly I think I may have overpaid for it ($1499) :( but it is pretty much set up the way I want an AR to be. I also panicked a bit hearing about the senate panel BS today.

In the past I have traded away all my ARs but hopefully this one will stay with me a long time. My first was a DPMS I built from a kit the second was an old Rock River I got on a trade and didn't like to much so I traded it for a Citori skeet gun This M&P 15T should be the best AR I have owned, plus I just happen to have 420 rounds of 855 I have to use!!!

BTW Does anyone really know if it still has the 1/8 5R barrel???

Thanks and well met
Jim

Welcome,
I just picked up my first AR = M&P15 Sport last week.
(Mine does have the 1/8 5R barrel, they've since replaced with the 1/9).

The M&PT was my 2nd choice, but was a bit more than I wanted to pay for my first M&P15.

I believe it has the 1/8 5R barrel, but I am far from an expert.

Had one in my hand today at a LGS, and it was equipped with a 1/9 barrel, with the M4 profile. I was puzzled. There is another thread on here where someone purchased 811041 model, and it had a 1/9 barrel as well. Who knows what is coming your way ... but congrats none the less!

Per S&W, the newer version of the M&P 15T will have the 1/8, 5R rifled, Melonite barrel. There is an older version to the 15T that came with Troy sights and a Troy handguard, and that version is 1/9.

The only model that S&W has changed the barrel on is the Sport, that I am aware of.

ETA....scratch everything I said above...just saw the other thread, and if you guys are seeing these in the wild, sounds like S&W is making more changes.

Oh well, I would rather the 1/8 but I guess I either way a lot will still depend upon the person behind the trigger more so than the barrel. I'll let you know what I get once it arrives.

Just shoot the firearm till you can find what it likes to eat. That's if you can find and afford trying different ammo's. I lucked out. My T chews thru the junk stuff with ease. But, I got to say I haven't seen a T with an M4 barrel profile in person. Good luck to you. And welcome to the forum.

You didn't necessarily overpay, but you didn't exactly get a great deal either.

As long as you are happy and can still afford to eat, I'd say it's no big deal.

I got one last month for 1199 out the door here in South Alabama.

If you look on the barrel up by the flash hider. You should see what you model has. There will be a 1in8 5R stamped in the barrel or 1in9. I stole mine, but you guys got one and did ok for the times at hand. :D

I just can't wait until it gets here and I guess in these times I didn't do too bad, not great but not bad!

Welcome to the club! Any AR that you can find right now and buy at a fairly decent price is good. You will be happy with yours! The only problem with it is after awhile you will see another one, and it might be a little cheaper or be tricked out, and then you will have two AR's. Trust me they multiply!:D Now get some ammo, mags, eye and ear protection and enjoy it. Just be safe!:D

Hi all,

I just bought my first gun last Sunday, picking it up Wed. I been wanting to get an AR and here in CA, we may not be able to buy them soon, if these gun haters get their way. I got. M&P 15 sport

Anyway, only other gun I have shot is shotguns, any tips would be great, I got ammo today at the gun shop, I think I just started a new expensive hobby :)

I will keep reading for info.

Thanks MMax, I am brand new to guns, I have a few friends that are military, so I got to suck it up and admit what a NEWB I am  but I am excited, I have only shot shotguns in the past a couple times, still learning all the lingo, etc.

These forums are a bit intimidating when you do not understand half the language.

I will learn, and safety is always priority 1

R8rutz,

Welcome to the forum and don't feel alone as I am a fellow AR newbie as well. I ordered my M&P Sport last Saturday and checking tracking it will be at my FFL Thursday. They got a late start due to backlogs in Kittery, Maine and it does take some time traveling on horse and buggy, especially having to pass through all those Communist checkpoints along the way.

I am here to warn that you will never get out of debt. I got into Smith and Wesson revolvers about 5 years ago and I now own up to 15 and can't get enough. I'm no longer married but I still got my Smiths and now like you I'm really in for it. But never fear it's great fun. Just think, in 5 years you may own 15 "illegal assault weapons". Ain't nothing wrong with that.

:D No worries. We were all confused "noobies" at one time too. :D

As for the lingo, you'll catch on as time goes by. All of a sudden, there it is.

I mentioned to the "Mods" once about a "sticky" where they could post something like that. They were looking into it... :D
