Happy Holidays all,
I was contacted by a friend from whom I have bought several firearms. All are typically well-cared-for condition. He is asking $900 for each though he my have a little flex. Here is what he has:
1. S&W used 17-6, 4" barrel, with box and papers. Knowing him I would guess very good condition.
2. S&W 686-4 6", NIB
3. S&W 617-4, 6", NIB. Here is the confusing part, he states in his email that it is 22 mag. My research shows it would be 22LR. Any chance that the custom shop would make one in 22 mag? The other thought is he is either wrong on the caliber or it is another model.
My research shows the $900 each on the upper end. Are any of the three worth chasing at that price? None were on my radar as must-haves since I have a pre-17 and a 586. Thanks for any thoughts.

Nothing trips my trigger at listed prices. Condition is super important. I have a 17-2, a 586 no dash 4" and a 5" 686-6 Pro Series. So like you am covered. Good luck with your decisions. Bob

The 17-6 has a full lug barrel and came with sq butt Combat stocks. I'd try to get it for less, but would pay $900. It's the perfect companion to your 586!

Thanks for the replies. If the 617-4 is NIB that may be the pick. I would feel better at $750-800.

Generally, the more units you buy, the better the per unit price.

You're more likely to save $100 on the gun you want if you buy all three.

None of these revolvers interest me enough to buy one for more than $600 Not that they're not worth more, it's that I don't like them enough to buy them unless it's a screaming deal.

RPG, I have come to the same conclusion. None were on my "list" which is rather short these days. I agree that they all are fine guns but paying (in my mind) full retail is not wise. Thanks all...
