Owned a few semi-autos ,e.g., Colt 1911( never should have sold it), Taurus 92, Iver Johnson TP, Kel-Tec P3AT, Glock , S&W 9F and 9VE "AF", Beretta 1934, Browning Hi-Power, S&W M639 (fave), etc., and a host of wheel guns by S&W, Rossi, Ruger and Taurus, etc. I bought the 40VE because I didn't have anything currently in 40 S&W. It has now replaced my 639 as my carry gun. I feel that good about it. The combination of firepower and capacity give the 40VE the edge. Though the M639 is more accurate, 15 rounds of 40S&W with reasonable accuracy made the choice easier. Anyone ever carry a stainless steel 639 knows how that feels. The Sigma slides lightly away, almost tolerable for a long hike on a hot day. Never thought I'd replace stainless with polymer.

I've always been one to defend the Sigma.. even though I DID trade mine in recently. For me, I just had no more need for it. I also own two M&Ps... M&P40 and M&P40c.. so I had no more use for it. I traded it in for a Beretta 96G (also .40) just for something different.

I carry my my SW40GVE daily. I have complete faith and trust in the gun and it carries quite comfortably. I've yet to own a semi-auto at any price that is more reliable.

I have a couple, a stainless and Allied, and a ruger, and a 3rd generation, and now a Smith 990L.
The Sigma is what rides next to me. I trust it 100%, the capacity, accuracy, is just what i want. It "feels" better than any of them.
Great grip, fits my hand perfectly.

The SW40VE fits my hand like a glove and has been 100% reliable so far. 14+1 in the chamber , if that can't solve the situation I've got another loaded 14 round mag with it ! I originally bought it for the price and carry it for the reliability and capacity. It goes with me every time that I leave the house and I trust it with my life !

I own several Ruger autos in 9mm and 45 ACP, but the SW40VE is quickly becoming my favorite. Here are some of the reasons why:
1. Fits my hand like it was custom made for me.
2. It is accurate.
3. It shoots lead bullet reloads (without having to buy an aftermarket
barrel).
4. It uses stainless steel mags (instead of plastic ones).
5. Easy to field strip.
6. If I should ever need it, excellent customer support.
7. Didn't cost me an arm and a leg.

NOW I love my sigma .40
I bought mine last year, after the election, in a hurry and on impulse. The man at Academy would not let me dry fire it and failed to even offer loading a snap cap or any other suggestion.
First range trip was horrible, gritty 12# pull, couldn't hit squat. Read up on it and sent it to LSG, back a week later and trigger pull down to 9# and not as gritty, now hit the target but low and left a little too much, so bought a Stoeger Cougar 8040. DA pull about 10# but very smooth, SA pull about 4# and shooting the center out of the target at 15 yards. Still liked the weight and grip of Sigma better, so time to learn some smithing. A little reading on this site and a few others, replaced a spring with lighter one and removed pig-tail spring, and polished the trigger parts and greased with moly-lube.
NOW the pull is less than 6#, shoots the cheapest stuff with no problems and also tears a ragged hole in the center of the target like my other pistols.

Still buying cheap Federal 180gr. ive had mine for a few years now, i had just got my CPL and was looking for a nice semi-auto.
local pawn shop had a AF 40VE unfired in the box with the 2 mags for $309.
needless to say its now been on my hip 99% of the time (rest of the time its my .357 rossi snubbie)
while at the range it will eat any kind of ammo i run through it without missing a beat.
i can draw from my IWB holster and put 2 shots in the 10 ring at 7 yards in under 2 seconds so i think thats good for me. but i also grew up shooting DA revolvers with my grandfather so the trigger pull doesn't bother me at all. i havn't messed with it at all just ran a few thousand rounds through it.
another thing i have done is practice dry firing with a quator on the top of the slide. what it does is make me pull smooth so i dont drop the quator off the top of the slide.
just doing that has made my groups much smaller

I carry an issued 40VE while on duty. Once I got beyond the bias I have against striker fired pistols, I must say it is a reliable, accurate, easy to carry pistol. (I'm old school & like to see a hammer on my handguns.) I've been a .40S&W fan for about 15+ years and it just plain fits my hand. I tried to buy it from my employer, but they said no.
