Back in the 1950s every Saturday night my friends and I would get together to watch HG-WT and Gunsmoke (I am pretty sure they ran together), eat potato chips and drink soda pop, then play cards.
I have noticed the same thing. Watching HG-WT, Gunsmoke, Maverick, or any number of other western shows of the time today is just not the same as it was back then, as they seem much more amateurish. Several months ago I couldn't sleep one night, and at about 3 AM I watched several episodes of the Roy Rogers show. I could hardly believe how hokey they were, nearly plotless and clearly made for 7 year-olds. I did get a kick out of watching Dale Evans cooking in her kitchen while wearing her six-gun.
