Have some good and bad news

When to a few Gun shops today looking for AMMO and Primers.Didnt find primers or .45 acp Ammo But did see 2 new S&W revolvers without the lock.I dont know how true this info is,but the salesman told me the suppliers are with-holding the sale of ammo and reloading supplies, the stuff is stocked ceiling high in the warehouses,so when the 500% taxes goes through,they will make a killing will the profits.I thought the government gets the tax money? Something does not sound right.Is it just BS. Sounds more like they just dont want us to have ammo.What do you think?

Taxes are collected by the government. Suppliers and manufacturers don't get to keep them.

Sounds like a crock to me. I guess the sales people are getting creative in their excuses for no ammo. I was at Big 5 yesterday and didn't have squat.

My local gunshop just got a big batch of .45 ACP from S&B, Win, and others. So there was a lot on their shelves yesterday. The prices were up 25% or more.

They also had .38 Special if you wanted to pay $27 for a box of 50.

The only way the manufacturer would make money is if the Tax was on ammo made after such and such date. They could jack it up and sell it cheaper than the after tax increase and make a real killing.

He's a liar, and not even very good at it! Let's see... I'm an ammo manufacturer, and I have been selling ammo at about $20 a box (just to use round numbers). The prices have recently jumped to $40 a box, and my customers are all very angry about the shortage and prices. I'll just wait a little longer, until a new 500% tax blasts the price up to $240 a box. (For your math-challenged, that's the current $40 a box x 600%, since you have to add the cost of the ammo plus the 500% tax.) Yessirree, bob, $240 a box for what used to cost $20 a box... they'll be lined up around the block to buy 'em!!! Whoever told you this theory is an idiot. If there was ammo piled up to the ceiling, they'd be releasing it at a steady, controlled rate to sell all they can at today's current high prices, before taxes make it impossible for their customers to buy any, or for them to make (and retain) a realistic profit. (Gosh, after almost 30 years as a policeman, I guess that economics degree really did pay off!)

Unless it is an excise tax on manufacture, I need to figure out how the vendors are going to make a killing by paying 500% Taxes. Even then, the boxes that have been taxed would be marked (ala cigarettes) as to whether they were taxed or not. The government looks grimly on those who defraud that system and buy them new orange clothes, a cafeteria food plan and a new boyfriend.

I believe a 500% tax increase would only be the on the tax. So if the Govt charges manufacturers $3. per box tax, it would be $18. per box tax. Not a substantial increase as, on average, several shops have increased their prices about that amount per box.
In my opinion, It is a rumor and should be treated like one.
