Have you ever opened a box of ammo ( yes this is factory loaded) and saw something like this? I suppose after millions of rounds one or two may slip through, I guess the lesson is don't load up with your eyes closed!

If you follow this, and other, shooting forums over time you will see posts about inverted primers, no primer, no powder, no flash hole, inverted bullets, cases torn down the side when the bullet was seated, wrong caliber in box, and others in factory ammunition. Yes, it happens.

As you say, very rare, but yes. Always examine ammo before use.

i've had the opposite happen; when i get .22 ammo in those 300-500+ round bulk packs i end up putting it all in smaller 100ct plastic boxes. Had a box of Fed 525 ct that ended up being 526 ct; maybe they figured at least one round wouldn't go off so they just included a little bonus buddy to make up for it.

One post was about how some Speer factory Gold Dot ammo off in weight and he had high ES in his test.
He weighed ALL the loads and kept the higest weights for SD work and used the lower loads for practice.

I weighed my GD factory ammo after reading this and , YES....
most were 208 grs, a LOT under that and only six came in at
210 grs in one of my ammo boxes.

Will it make a difference ?
It is just factory ammo...... not Custom ammo.......only made to
go BANG !

I've seen new boxes of ammo with some rounds missing more than once.

Seems more likely that a 'shopper' lifted a few rounds from the box than that the factory messed up.

I always check before paying.

I stopped buying ammo from big mega stores like Cabela's because of this. I see people opening ammo boxes there all of the time and you know some of it gets stolen. I'll be you see a lot less of this at your small LGS or someplace where the ammo is kept behind the counter like Walmart. If your intent is to buy the ammo then, by all means, inspect it. But don't go up and down the isle and open 3 dozen boxes just 'cuz.

I could be wrong, but I thought Remington used gold colored primers in their loaded ammunition. Are you certain these aren't reloads? Do you see other signs that they might be reloads?

Question here too. It may just be the picture, but to me, that box looks old, the holes where the ammo is missing looks old/dirty and the brass doesn't look new.

I've actually had this box sittin around since last summer hence the old look and the six missing rounds are from me using them the oddity is the one round with the primer upside down
