Hawk Bait ?

Took my 7 mo old pup Tuco out for his daily walk today and saw this hawk fly into the tree ahead of us. We walked right by it within 3 feet and it didn't move. after getting past it I stopped to snap a picture with my phone so please excuse the crappy photos.

Dan, since you have legal open carry, I'd suggest a 12 gauge. That might attract a little more attention than you're looking for around your parts these days, though.

Yes he is a mischievous little imp. My last dog before Tuco was a 200 lb Bull Mastiff but then I lived on 3 Acres, now I have a 20 ft by 12 ft fenced front yard.

Nope I wont own a Judge, I will have to carry one of my BBQ guns

I am having the same issue with my three Toy Yorkies. We have an abundance of Hawks in this area. Once there was a close call and I took care of the problem.

It is illegal to shoot a hawk so I am not suggesting one do such but then I am not suggesting a person should let a hawk tote off a $800 dog either.

Now if the dogs go outside, someone is usually out there with them. Fortunately, the Yorkies belong to my daughter and are only here a few hours each weekend but my dog is a Sheltie and large enough to not be treatened by a hawk.

Our little black terapoo weighs 14 pounds. Hawks frequently draw a bead on him when walking in the river bottom near here. He chases geese all the time. A hawk swooped down very close to him once and he thought it wanted to play. We keep a close lookout for the hawks now.

I drive a truck and have noticed a lot of hawks lately. They'll dive right in front of you to get their prey. Did you see the video on u-tube of these people who had their family rat/hamster sitting outside on the table? The rat was on top of it's cage and a hawk swooped in and was gone with the rat before they knew what happened. Hope they weren't attached to the rat but it was funny.

I keep Tuco around to chase off all the pimps around here. He is a scrappy little guy I will bring him with me to Tulsa in April to guard your tables when you are on your searches of the show

I drive a truck and have noticed a lot of hawks lately. They'll dive right in front of you to get their prey.

I've been a student of redtails for some time, and this is what you are seeing:

field mice and other rodents are often attracted to the grassy strips along highways because people throw trash out of their windows as they zoom by, said trash often containing food wrappers, cold French fries, etc. This attracts said rodents.

Hawks have extremely acute eyesight and can easily detect movement. When they do, they "lock on" and go into an attack dive. They are totally oblivious to anything else when so engaged, including oncoming traffic, and many of them pay the price.

Owls, great horned owls especially, it seems, also exhibit this behavior, except of course, they are nocturnal.

I have stopped, picked up, and buried more of these guys than I care to recall.
