Hawks

Charlie J. was a mechanic at the plant from Minnesota. Great worker and has pretty wife but he retired on disabillty when a 4 inch pipe at the deep well cut loose and the blast of water broke his neck. Good all round fellow who drove one of those ugly Chevy Avalanches.
Retuning to the shop late in the day something caught my eye and I see a hawk perched on Charlie's driver side mirror digging in to a dove. I may have never seen it except the lowering sun backlit the shower of down feathers. I rolled into the shop and there was Charlie. I said "Hey man a hawk's eating a dove all over your truck!".

Now a week or two before Charlie was down in a lift station, a can, N-3 when a check valve he was clearing failed and flooded the station with brown water. Picture a 20 foot deep Jeannie's genie bottle with the pumps and control panel in a 8 ft. circular spot... a bit cramped and tricky to navigate out of quickly.
Later that day sitting around with the rest of the mechanics and Charlie relaying the story I couldn't help myself. I broke into song
"Just sit right down and you'll hear a tale, a tale of a fateful trip
When Charlie went into N3 and ate a load of shinola".

When I told Charlie about the hawk and his Chevy he said "Brad, why you always effin with me?!?

I saw the two love birds (hawks) this morning..Both sitting on the same branch...I was driving in the truck, so I didn't get a photo..

Very fitting since today is Valentines day.

Also saw a couple of Robins in the front yard this morning too....They ..or at least one was in the romantic mood, the other...not so much.
