HD ammo for a 12 Gauge

Also, I'm not a fan of multiple loads. I'm going to start the fight with a load to end the fight.

I have my Ithaca Police Special loaded with 8 rounds of #1 buck. Lots of pellets, adequate penetration of people, minimal penetration of walls.

The Box o'Truth website has some interesting info on loads, spreads and penetration.

enfield - Thanks for the link.
Answered most of my questions, brought up a couple I hadn't thought of yet and gave me links to other informative reading.

I now know #4 Birdshot (0.13")is about half the size of #4 Buckshot (.024"), so my new "Friend" is now stoked with 00 Buck,
but is likely to end up with low-recoil #1 Buck.

Of course I've got to do some testing with various loads and practice a lot, but I believe I'm heading in the right direction now. :D

Thanks to the rest also, you've all helped me a lot.

I really like the Federal Tactical 00 Buckshot with the Flight Control wad. Recoil isn't bad & patterns are tight.

For years I used the Federal H132 00 buck (low recoil). Now it seems to be called the LE132 and my local place sells it for $28.41 a sleeve (50pk). I'll be picking up some soon for my soon to be here Winchester 1300 Defender.

Federal Tactical 00 Buck (LR) w/Flight Control Wad is like shooting a slug at 7 yards. It starts to pattern nicely after that and the recoil is good. And the accuracy with just a bead sight is unbelievable. It comes in 8 and 9 shot loads but I didn't see any difference.
