I recently inherited a number of handguns and need help identifying & pricing them for resale.

They are as follows:

1. S & W .32 Long, I frame, 5 screws, 6" barrel, s/n 508563, good condition

2. S & W .32 Long, I frame, 5 screws, 2" barrel, s/n 593224, exc condition

3. S & W .38 Spl, K frame, 3 screws, 2" barrel, s/n D9556, exc condition (1968?)

I have included photos of each gun. I would like to know the year and value of each one.

Thanks in advance,
Steve

S&W .32 Long Hand Ejector, 3 ¼” nickel # 512621, shipped in April 1938.

S&W .32 Long, a blue 4" Regulation Police, # 586848, shipped in February 1953.

The .32 Hand Ejectors and the .32 Regulation Police revolvers were in the same serial number series.

No, although I can see why one might think so.

He was sharing the known shipment dates of two revolvers whose serial numbers are close to those of your two .32s.

As if often said here, S&W didn’t ship guns in serial number order, so the only way to be *sure* of when your guns shipped would be to request a letter. Nevertheless, it is likely your two revolvers shipped within a few months of the dates given.

Finally, you are correct that your Model 10 likely shipped in 1968.

Okay, got it!

Is the 6" version a Regulation Police revolver?

Also, any ideas on value?

Thanks Mark!!

No. The Regulation Police had a rebated backstrap to accommodate its unique square butt stocks. Your revolver is a “.32 Hand Ejector, Third Model.”

I am not qualified to assign monetary values, but the most recent Standard Catalog of S&W puts a value on the .32s at $300 and $500 for Good and Very Good condition, respectively.

As to the .38, I have purchased two Model 10-5s like yours in the past couple of years. I paid $550 each, in VG/Ex condition, with original stocks, and I was happy with those deals. Your stocks are replacements, which will hurt the value slightly for some, but snubs seem to be hot at the moment, and values can vary depending on geography.
