Online scamming seems to be everywhere these days.



The wife got a text notification from "publishers clearing hose" that she won... yeaaa. Then they proceeded to extract personal info to verify her identity. End result was their need for her to pony up $500 for prize money delivery fees. Of course, she was smart enough not to fall into the trap completely ... in another 10 years I'm not too sure though. She really wanted that $one million.



I'd like to squeeze the life out of people that try to scam us older folks. Stay alert gang.

I hope she didn't divulge her SS#, maiden name or birthday. Scammers can do a lot of harm with that info.

Birthday ... yes. Maybe they'll send her a cake ... for $200.

I get at least 30 scam emails a day. I've "won" everything possible, just need to give "payment info." 99% are from ".de" which is Germany. And yes, I have blocked the domain. I look through the inbox and check "delete" for all except those I want. Joe

Every morning I check my emails and a good 95% of them are scams or junk. I get a least 400 a day and maybe I open 5 or 6. Total pain in the rear

It took some doing to convince my mother of that several years ago, but once convinced she was pretty well inoculated against the scammers.

Been receiving scam emails and text USPS ,Pay Pal ,eBay ,Best Buy Geek Squad and Amazon.

My wife had a credit card challenged, fortunately we have credit freezes on everything and fraud alerts on most accounts, they also got into her phone. Bless her heart she puzzled it all out and with the help of people at the bank worked everything out and besides changing all of her passwords found it doable. Makes me wonder how some older folks get by, they are probably the targets...we ain't spring chickens but been around the barn a time or two.

About a year ago, someone got access to my checking account. I caught it before any damage was done, had to change my account number and password.

Regarding credit cards, always go through the monthly CC statements to be sure all charges are legitimate. We found one such phony charge early this year, called the card company and they removed it. Also gave us new cards with different numbers. Also made one purchase on the card for an item that was never delivered. Reported it to the card company, they reversed it also.

My M-in-L fell for the nephew-in-jail scam. Fortunately, a niece got wind of it and got the money stopped. Now she got a letter from the "IRS" saying she didn't file her taxes correctly last year and owed money. She hasn't had to file for taxes in years. Some are so blatantly obvious I feel those who fall for it had it coming.
