Height of front sights

I have three Model 17s. The two older ones have similar height front sights and in my hands shoot high whilst the later one has a higher front sight and shoots OK. Does anyone know whether this model supplied with a different height front sight over time or on request? Any help appreciated

On a model 17, most change the rear sight blade to get the sight zero they want if the adjustment is insufficient. Kits are available from S&W.
