Heirloom needs a cylinder

The easiest way to tell if a 32RF tip-up is Model 1 1/2 or Model 2 is to look at the top strap. Model 1 1/2 square-butt had a cylinder stop in the bottom of the frame, while the Model 2 had a hammer actuated top strap cylinder stop. The other way is to look at the barrel length. Model 1 1/2 was not offered with a 6" barrel.

There was only one model of Model 2. Early guns (changed around #3000) had a 2 pin top strap, while later ones had 3 pins. Standard barrel lengths were 4", 5", and 6". THis model was introduced in 1861, so saw action in the Civil War.

Was this cylinder found so that I don't need to keep worrying? It would bother me to no end to have an incomplete heirloom revolver.

Here is a thought. Find a Model 2 online, looking for rough examples at a good price. Look at Gunbroker and Proxibid for this model and remember, they are antiques and will ship directly to your home in most states. Use the cylinder for your gun and any other parts needed, then strip and sell the parts on ebay or Gunbroker. If you do not sell on ebay, there are surely others you know who would help you out. Not only will you complete your heirloom, you will likely put several other Model 2 revolvers back in service as well! Oh, may make more selling the remaining parts than you spent on the whole gun.

As others have noted, cylinders for the Model 2 are almost impossible to find, and so are all the other parts.

Hi There,

Here are some pics showing the differences between the #1-1/2
and the #2. One pic shows a #1 2nd issue for size comparison

The #1-1/2 is considerably smaller in diameter and the hole for
the stub cylinder pin (in the center of the ratchet is smaller in
diameter that the #2's. So, they will not interchange.

Cheers,
Webb
