I recieved an email from the NRA soliciting hunters, to participate in a helicoter hog hunt. I've thought about this for a few days. It's legal but is it ethical? I understand that many, if not most of the animals are wounded. How manu hunters are capable of a one shot kill from a moveing helicopter on a running hog? Few at best. Does this type of activity project an image lto the general public that we can be proud of? I believe in fair chase, one shot kills and eat what you shoot. Every living thing deserves respect

Quick and humane kills are always the goal. If you lived with these blghts on the planet you'd want to hunt them any way legal.

I agree, myself, I would have a problem with it. Financially and from the ethics point of view. But, if its legal and you want to do it, go ahead.

It appears one might confuse sport hunting with shooting for population control....Kinda like prairie dogs, gophers etc....

When the hogs come in the nite and root up your pasture, crops , hay fields, garden, backyard....
The bigger the outfit, the larger the methods used to deal with it.

The white gloves gotta come off.

Sounds like a control shoot not a hunting trip.

I don't know as I'd have a problem with the "ethics" of it. But I would not call it hunting. Call it what it is. Hog killing.

I want to do it at night wearing infared goggles-that would be , as they say in Maine, Wicked Cool. Sneak up on them-hit the lights and get you some!

Having seen the damage feral hogs can do to crops I have no problem with it whatever you want to call it.

I agree, and what's with the hog reality shows where they capture them and turn them lose someplace else. Kindá like you pay me to remove them and I take them someplace else and suppose ably release them, and they pay me to move them also. WOW now that's a good scam if that's what they do on the reality shows like they say.

And How about when they let the dogs kill them inhumane also but done by a different animal.

Hog's reproduce faster then rabbits it seems they need to be killed, food for the food banks, not removed and relocated or people and crops will be damaged more then they are now. But for $2300 leave me out, want them removed open season all year.

Actually, In Texas you can hunt them that way. TX Parks & Wildlife just requests you inform your local game warden that you are going to do it so they know you are not spotlighting deer.

Sadly, they've become huge, extremely dangerous and destructive vermin that reproduce at an unbelievable rate. Helicopter shooting to reduce their numbers may be pitiful-poor PR with the anti-gun and PETA folks, but the infestation has long since reached crisis level in many areas.

Relocating them is insane. These damn critters are also smart, and can get along most anywhere. Shoot to stop the threat, as we say around here.

if it's from a UH-1 using a sling mounted M-60 I'm in. can't remember what movie it was but one gunner was being interviewed "if they run, they're VC, if they stand still they're well disciplined VC" lee
