Hell or High Water

I watched it last week end...good movie, with good characters. I liked the country music too. The movie was shot in the beautiful New Mexico...why not in Texas (as beautiful i suppose) ?
BTW: for once the armed citizens were not depicted as idiots rednecks, was a good surprise....a true 2A movie?

Watched it two nights ago on Netflix disc. Pretty decent movie. I don't know about the beautiful "Texas" scenery tho. I think most of it was filmed in New Mexico.
I'm the guy that mentioned the beautiful Texas scenery. I've never been to Texas but always particularly wanted to go to New Mexico. No wonder I liked the scenery! It WAS New Mexico. Surprised Bridges didn't run into Wyoming's Longmire down there.
A good thing about the movie is Bridges and his partner wear classic fancy ranger gunbelts and I think matching tooled pants belt. Ans stag handled 1911 Colts. And Jeff Bridges always talks nowadays, even in interviews, like he has chewing tobacco in his lower lip.

I thought is was one of those movies that you are glad you didn't pay to see it at the theater, but glad you rented it when it came out.

I particularly liked the soundtrack.

I'd never heard of Townes VanZandt, but I really liked Dollar Bill Blues. And same for Chris Stapleton with Outlaw State of Mind. Those are the types of gems you find when you are looking at the other stuff!

You beat me to it Protected One. We watched that last night. I love to stumble over a movie that doesn't promise much but turns out to be a very excellent movie, It's been a long time since I had such a big surprise and this sleeper. I'd call it a modern day western. Interesting plot that moves right along but the thing that makes this movie one of the most entertaining Ive seen in a long time is the crackling dialogue and Jeff Bridges (Not Jeff Daniels) stellar performance as a grizzled Texas Ranger. It was the performance of his life. Cris Pine and the rest of the cast all turn in top rate jobs. I'll be watching this one another time or two before I send it back to Netflix. I've only ever done that 3 or 4 other times. It is that good.

If you miss this one you'll be missing a good'n.

I couldn't agree more with your assessment! The dialog was uncommonly authentic, and the pace, though some would call it slow, considering the setting and theme, only added to the "feel" of the movie.

I go to about 2-3 movies per month and have about 800 in my collection, so I guess movies is something I enjoy - in addition to guns. :) THIS ONE, I'll be watching over and over again.

"You carrying a gun old man?"
"You damn right I am!!!"

Watched it this past week. I'm a huge Jeff Bridges fan but I've never been able to stand blue-eyed pretty boy actor Chris Pine in anything... so I was quite conflicted about it until I saw the preview videos. Then I read about it and thought that it had possibilities. In the end, I was able to stand Chris Pine in this role without any ill effects. ;)

One big point: Assuming you are a reasonably intelligent and well-informed person, you really need to suspend any and all thoughts about reality (i.e., the "real world") in order to enjoy this close-to-fantasy movie. There are enough serious and fatal plot flaws in the story, start to finish, to sink a ship. I'd make a list of the top 10 "Hell or High Water" stupid plot flaws but I don't want to spoil the movie for anyone who hasn't watched it yet. :)

Still Jeff Bridges is worth it. But then again, Jeff Bridges is almost always worth it in any movie I can think of. :D

I had a guy who wrote his demand note on his paystub. He crossed out his name and the first digits of his SSAN, helpfully leaving his last four unblemished. I went to his job and they brought him to the office. I held up the note and said What The ****? He just looked at the floor and shook his head.

I worked a burglary where the juvenile offender dropped his hall pass in the residence. Took the pass to the school and spoke with the teacher who issued the pass. Case solved. :)

There are those of us who think Townes is the greatest songwriter of his time, especially of sadness and loneliness, even better than that Dylan boy from Minnesota.

Still on the job?

No, I retired from active US law enforcement in 2001. I spent 5 years overseas; 2 years as an international police officer in Kosovo and 3 years as a police advisor in Afghanistan.

I just retired, for good I hope!, from working security at a Federal office.

Watched it last night with iTunes rental. I thought it was so-so.

Jeff Bridges was good though, as others have noted.

The "what do you not want" scene was funny, with the waitress easily overmatching the crusty old ranger character.

I think The Big Lebowski is Bridges' greatest role, and best movie. Watched that one again a coupla months ago. Very funny stuff.

We watched it last night. It's a decent movie with some flaws. Good actors, characters, music and scenery. Nice camera work too, especially with the driving scenes. I liked the fact of the armed citizen inside the bank, unfortunately it didn't work out for him.

The relationship between the two Rangers was quite funny too. But I can see where it can become very draining after awhile...

One Riot, One Ranger - how can you not love those guys :)
