Hello fellow S&W enthusiasts! wdan5906 signing in for my first post as a new member. My particular area of interest are the TDA semi-auto pistols. I am a product of the wondernine wars of the 1980's. The S&W 9mm have been a long time love!

Welcome aboard. Lots of fine folks here I know you will enjoy it. Hope you are warm enough, I once lived there and it's too cold for me LOL! Nice plae in the summertime tho. My Brother-in-law was born and raised there.

WDan5906, Welcome! You are in good company as we are all lovers of Smith and Wesson's. And there is no shortage of those of us who care for and collect the Traditional Double Action S&W pistols. Should you have any questions, feel free to post away because there are quite a few knowledgeable folks on The Forum that would be glad to help!

Hello to a fellow Hoosier and welcome! You will like the respectful atmosphere here and the knowledge and good advice is abundant.

Model 5906 one piece stock

Question to S&W 5906 owners. Which one piece stock do you prefer? I like the straight optional stock. Do not understand why S&W put a curved backstrap stock on the double stack full sized 9mm. Afterall the model 59 had a straight back strap, as it should be! -- What say you?

I prefer the straight back straps, but its an easy fix if it comes with the "wrong" one

Welcome from another Indiana resident. I grew up just west of you in Putnam County. I have to agree that i prefer the straight backs as well.

The original curved stock on my 5906 fit my hand so well that I couldn't live with my 4516TSW until I put one on it. To each, his or her own, I suppose.

My first post here too...

My first post here too; might as well jump in....gboling, admiring your avatar...izzat who I think it is? Can't really see it well enough to be sure...got to be, what with your Globe, Eagle, and Anchor....

I too am a long time fancier of the TDA's. Haven't had as many as most of you guys I reckon, but I bought a 659 new when they came out and carried a 5906 as a duty weapon for a long time. Got a 3953 on the way and looking for some more stainless autos; just love 'em. I realize it isn't a TDA, but a close cousin? I'd like to find a 4556 to go with it if anyone can point me that direction...

Welcome

Hey guys. You have found a great place to chat, check out and post photos of your S&W autos. Fans of the 3rd Gen autos are living in great days right now. Most police trade-ins are going for less than $300 and there are a ton of them. If you are looking for a 9mm or 40, right now is the time to buy. I have a 4506, 1006, 4006TSW, 4003 and 5904. They all have the straight-backed grip. It just feels better to me (and looks cooler too). Attached is my 5904. These guns make great project guns and are ultra-reliable. A very good choice for people who still like their guns to be made out of metal. Post some photos when you can. Let's see what you have. Enjoy the forum.

I love my pachmayer :D REALLY comfy. between it and the weight of the gun, I've learned (over time) to safely control it firing rapidly, and can actually shoot it as fast as the slide can cycle, at ten yards, and hit every shot in a 6-8" group center mass, I strongly discourage anyone trying this until they've practiced, starting slow and really getting to know the gun over time. This was my first semi-auto, I've had years to get to know it, and at this point in my life the range-master at my range actually watches me do this with a smile! and I make sure only to do it when I'm the only party there besides the rangemaster, so as to be polite to others, and also not inspire an amateur to try this.

I actually just switched this video from private to public so I could share it here in this thread :), the one shot I mention in the vid that hit high, hit the 'bad guy' on the target in the head, I was aiming for center mass and that was the only flyer not in the group. the other male voice heard in the video is the range-master. he just watched me shoot a wildey one-handed before I recorded this vid of the 5906. They know me well at my range, and safety is my first priority! I welcome criticism and feedback, and assure you that I worked my way slowly to this point! I guess the point of sharing this is A) I love my 5906, and B) the pachmayer really makes this gun easy and comfy to shoot. The square and checkered trigger-guard really helps too.
