Hi all,

Older guy (on approach to retirement) who caught the shooting bug from a son-in-law about five years ago. I joined my local range and started competing in the monthly USPSA match there.

The reason I'm here; a couple years ago I felt the need to add a revolver to the herd. My mind was set on a GP-100, but my gunsmith advised that a Smith would be a better investment and easier for him to tune. So on my birthday a 66_8 came home with me. After a slight issue with light strikes during the break-in period, my guy replaced the springs with a kit he uses for a local sheriff's department and it has been perfect since.

The more I shoot this gun, the more I love it. I look forward to chatting with all of you about everything Smith and Wesson, particularly revolvers and competition shooting.
 
Hello from just over the 'hill' from you in Wickiup Junction! I think the GP-100 is a great gun - I bought one a few years ago as I wanted another 4" .357 (formerly owned a M-19 and sold it) and found a late model GP for a great price. I shot it 'some' but always knew I wanted a Mod 19 again. Anyway long story short a M66 & M60 came to me in an odd manner and now I have my 4" 'K' frame back as well as a snub as I had also been looking for an M36 also. A few minutes of handling the 66 and the GP went up for sale. The Smith just feels more 'natural' in my hand and the K frame is a little trimmer than the GP was.

Welcome! My maternal Grandparents used to live in Newberg, in the 50s they owned Calef & Hart Furniture on First St. I spent some time there a few summers, a very nice town and area.

And a Hound Dawg Howdy to you from SC! I have nothing against GP 100s, they are great guns, but I feel he did you a favor steering you to an S&W. I was going to settle for a GP, but I WANTED an S&W 686. I stretched my dollars and I'm so glad I did.

Trigger is like silk in double action. Crisp in aingle action and a great shooter.

My wife and her friends are wine people, and sometimes I shuttle them around not too far from there, up in Dundee Hills. Beautiful area, and an easy drive from here.

Oh, and BTW, I like the GP100, but you made the right choice!

Ha! My home range is in the Dundee hills. Next time, drop them off and come shoot with me.
