I've been lurking for a little while now so I guess it's time to introduce myself. My primary area of interst is muzzleloaders but I do have a 3rd gen 5906 that I use for a nightstand weapon. Like a lot of other people, I am considering applying for my CPL and am currently researching for a good carry gun. My first introduction to S&Ws goes back to 1971 when I was taking combat aircrew training and had to qualify to carry a revolver as part of my survival gear. I wish I could remember exactly which Model it was ( I think it was an old Model 10), but I had no problems qualifying even though I had never shot one before. To this day, I still think about that revolver often wish I had bought one when they were a little more affordable for me. Looking forward to absorbing some of the wealth of knowledge on this board. Dave

Welcome aboard from WI! This is best place to learn and share all things Smith & Wesson! :)

Thank you all for the warm welcome. I have requested to join the veterans group and with regards to the service revolvers, I think I qualified with a Model 10 before I went to Thailand but when I needed to check out a service revolver for missions, they were Model 15-2s. We didn't have weapons assigned, we just checked them out when flying. I was an Avionics and navigation tech and only flew when the systems decided to malfunction during preflight and taxi out. As beatup as those old B52-D models were, I pretty much flew missions every time I was on alert status.
