I live in Oklahoma. My daughter gave me a 45 that she got from a friend. I would like to more about it. It is stamped Military and the serial number is CAI M0864.

Hello and welcome from a fellow "Okie".

Welcome aboard from the great state of Pennsylvania! Now, a picture would do wonder's for finding out about your new puppy...

Welcome from California. What other markings are there on the gun? Is it a revolver or semiauto? CAI is an arms importing firm. The other number does not sound like a S&W serial number. Photos would help.

As David Wilson noted, Century Arms International is an importer of surplus guns.

You will need to give DETAILED info on any other markings and numbers.

Is even the manufacturer's name not on the slide or the barrel, if a revolver? That would be very unusual, not to see that there.

sooo your daughter gave you a gun that she got from a friend? A few pictures will get you deeper into your search

Techman56, Welcome to the forum. What you have is a fairly well made copy of the 1911. I have s/n M04xx. It should be about 10-12 years old. I can't remember where it was made but other than a slight problem with the slide stop catching the slide before the mag was empty it functioned fine. A used surplus slide stop fixed the problem and runs perfectly now. When I bought mine it was very inexpensive, especially with the fact that all of the tolerances were tighter than the Colt 70 series I own.
Shoot the snot out of it and enjoy, just watch the web of your hand. The hammer on mine bites the flesh between my thumb and finger sometimes as the hammer has not been rounder over any.
