Helmet law protester crashes, hits head, and dies.

I guess he wasn't good for his own cause kinda like the gun guy that shoots himself or someone else.

Dang,

Yep , and more gun laws would stop all shootings.

Helmet would save lives in cars too.

How many people , especially CHILDREN die or suffer head trauma and permanant brain damage in automobile accidents.

Plus , they couldn't talk on the cell phones with a helmet.

I way prefer NO HELMET when riding...
You want to wear one - Have at it.

WHY are helmets not required for automobile occupants?
They would save lives and save folks from some injuries.

If I HAVE TO why shouldn't everyone?

Like mkk41 kinda said - We just need more laws and everything will be alright.

He died a free man.

I'll go along with that. Myself I wouldn't think of rideing without a helmet but thats my choice. I don't believe the govt. has any right telling me to wear it.

I know the argument about the cost to the taxpayers/sociaty etc. But, if you accept that. then there is no limit to what the govt. has the right to mandate regarding your personal behaviour.

He died a free man.

No , the law was still in effect. But he died fighting for something he believed in. He died for his cause.

Gun owners often say they'll give up their guns when "they pry it from my cold , dead hands!" , but how many would truly step up?

Better to die on your feet than live on your knees.

Here in NH there is no helmet law. Free choice is the way it should be everywhere. A friend of mine works in an OR setting, she calls every helmet-less motorcycle rider "organ donor".

It's ironic to see someone on a motorcycle wearing almost nothing for clothing, with a helmet on their heads. Short shorts, flip flops, halter tops for the girl on the back of the bike; bare chested men/driver with cut off blue jean shorts and a pair of sneakers, etc.
I spent over a decade in EMS service and I've always thought that if they are going to pass helmet laws, they should also pass leather laws.

I've had a few 'incidents' and scores of close calls. And 3 with seriously bodily damage. All caused by cars. And yes , if I wasn't wearing a top quality full face helmet during one of them 25yrs ago , I wouldn't be typing this.
Still , since PA repealed it's helmet law , I ride without a helmet. My choice. I can accept death doing what I like. No more pain , no more worry about , the state of the world , taxes , healthcare , social security , no dying from cancer or alzhiemers.

Wearing half a cows worth of black leather on a 95' day doesn't appeal to me either. Boots , jeans and a T shirt when hot , demin jacket/shirt when cool. Leather jacket when cold.

I do see those on sportbikes wearing a full face helmet , a leather jacket with all the roadracer armor plates & pads , and shorts with flip-flops.

Well, I started riding when we were all wearing Marlon Brando style caps. Didn't like the helments when the law came out, still don't. The Harley owners use to joke that all a helment did was make you look great in the coffin.

When I think back going 95 miles an hour on my soft tail with my girlfriend on the back, neither of us wearing helmets...I realize, even though I wasn't alone, how stupid I really was. Of course, even with a helmet, it was stupid.

When the government pays for your "Health Care", Can't they regulate your wreckless activities? And can't they define "wreckless" or "unhealthful" ?

I refer to them as "Organ Donors".
Where I live, a couple of days ago, a little ol' Mexican Lady blew a stop sign and a 58 year old Harley Driver was DRT.

She might get a ticket, but their will be no Criminal Charges filed cause those people shouldn't be riding them things according to the Grand Juries around here.

Go to the county that the southern part of the city is in and you'll be lookin' at prison time for the same offense.

Rule 303

What I find to be strange... most places you will be ticketed for no helmet on a motorcycle, and also ticketed for wearing a helmet in a car.

When on a bike, I dont leave the driveway without a helmet.
I also wear leather jackets, boots, armored pants...

I am one of those riders who makes sure their exhaust isnt obnoxiously loud.
I had a close friends small daughter loose hearing in one ear due to a guy revving at a stoplight next to where they were on the sidewalk.
Most of the noise is shot behind you... a strobing brakelight would work just as well.
I have been in groups of riders and encountered other downed riders, or had one of our group go down.
I will take the discomfort of leather in 90 degree heat over having a nurse scrubbing asphalt out of my skin... and undergoing skin grafts.

I dont expect to wreck, have a car pull out in front of me, over cook a turn.
However I know that it can happen.
I wear my protective gear for the same reason I carry a sidearm.
I just might need it.

Do what you want. However if you are wearing shorts, a tank top, flip flops, no helmet... and go down.
Dont expect me to feel bad about it.
Its about the same as crawling into the lions den wearing a porterhouse suit and being shocked when Simba has you for lunch.

My son has been a certified trauma care paramedic for over ten years. He's rolled on dozens of motorcycle accidents, and their maxim is that the only difference between helmeted and non-helmeted fatalities, especially at speeds greater than 35mph, is the difference between an open or closed casket.

If bikers want to ride bareheaded, that's fine by me. My only condition would be that the biker and passenger waive any taxpayer-paid medical benefits, if they opt to ride without a helmet. Bareheaded on your own dime.

Having been involved in a fatal motorcycle accident, my Passenger died from massive head trauma, I have strong feelings about riding and the use of helmets. I do not believe that the use of helmets should be mandated, that is a personal decision. I do believe that anyone who rides without a helmet is a fool. If I offend anyone well that's life...

I don't even own a motorcycle so my opinion may not count for much, but I think it is a good thing to wear a helmet if you do ride. It would be some protection for your coconut.

That said, I really really resent laws that force me to do something "for my own good". It's my coconut. If I crack it on the road, it's still my coconut. Take a picture of it and put it in the newspaper and on teevee for educational purposes and let people decide for themselves if they should wear a helmet.

To each his own. I am a bicyclist, not a motorcyclist, I have been wearing bicycling helmets since I first heard about them back in 1977. I took a tumble a week ago, only going about 8-10 MPH. Didn't even get a headache.
