Hoping to find some .22 ammo experts to weigh in...

I need to decide if this old ammo has collector value or if I should just shoot it up.

Have 9 bricks of Winchester-Western yellow box SUPER-SPEED hollow point. Headstamp is an "H". (what gives with that:confused:) Part # SS22LRH. These boxes have the child warning on them.

Have 10 bricks of W-W white box T-22 solids. Headstamp cursive W. Part # WT22LR. These boxes do not have the child warning.

50/rd boxes in great shape. Some of the 500/rd cartons are battered.

Any idea as to vintage or value? This stuff will make great plinking ammo but I don't want to be wasteful if it is collectible.

Sorry no pics. Haven't learned that yet. Thanks for any help.

It sounds like you have found some treasure.
Do your boxes look like the picture I have posted?
Check the boxes for zip codes. I think these are from the fifties.

No. They say Winchester and SUPER-SPEED, but say Winchester Western Division and Olin on the back. And I was wrong about warnings: both styles have the child warning on the boxes.

Hum...

Care to part with any of these? I might be interested in purchasing a brick or two of each.

Have fun and be safe.

I just shot up couple of boxes like that. Price tag was $.73 a box.

You should keep some for display and shoot the rest or sell it to a collector. I have ONE bottom shelf in one of my wife's curio glass cabinets that I have old paper shells, bullets and boxes such as yours on display. Looks neat!

You might see what ammo of the same vintage is selling on gunbroker and if it's selling for less than CCI SV I would shoot it, especially the T-22 I still have a few hundred rounds of that left that is about 20 years old and it shoots well out of both my 17-4 and my Remington 541-S.

Good luck

Yea, I'll try that. Thanks. I'm not really looking to sell any but if it has collector value I may sit on it a few years to see what happens. If not, it will give me a good plinking ammo stash. Maybe both.

In any case, even if you so shoot it up I would save some of each for future collector's value.

I'm going to say they are probably from sometime in the '70s, if not before.
My Grandfather had quite a bit of those (actually I have them now) and he died in 1980.

 Crikees! I saw some Super Speeds on that site that were the same load but maybe older and they were asking $1.50 per round or 'bout $50 per box of 50. At those prices: sign up boys, I'm takin' orders! ;)

Without knowing EXACTLY what you have, I would suggest that if you are in the financial position to save it as a collectible, just put it away somewhere in a cool & dry place. Buy some new stuff and fire away. I don't think you have the "Crown Jewels" there, but it will only increase in value, so you will always be ahead of the game when you do decide to sell it.
