Help date my friends gun

Got a friend of mine re-interested in his S&W's. He asked me to help him date a 32 long his father gave him. The only info I got was it's a 32 long revolver, in great shape! and the number he gave me is; H 16104. thanks for any help

Per S&W Catalog it would date to 1969-70. Models 30 & 31.

It is either a model 30 if it has a round butt, or a model 31 if it has a square butt. Either way would be from 1969 - 70. Your friend should be able to read the model number by opening the cylinder and checking the model stamp on the yoke.

I have a 3" model 31 from the early 1970s and it's a sweet little shooter.

Exceedingly common he gave you the assembly number in the yoke instead of the serial number on the butt which is what will properly identify the age
