I recently picked up a Remington 513-T Matchmaster. It has the (what appears to be) original Redfield 68 globe sight in front and the Redfield 75 peep sight rear. I found a Remington date code pdf but I cannot decipher the date code on the left side of the barrel. Attached are the date code stamp and the serial number from the barrel. Do you think the date stamps are the letter "A" with the top of the "A" missing? Nothing else seems to work. If so, it would be from march 1954. Can anyone help? TIA

The AA is the BBl Date Code.
March, 1954 is what I get.
The dizzy figure following the AA is a Final Inspector punch mark.

Each inspector had a different symbol assigned to them. Anything from an Anvil, Lightning Bolt, Animal Figure, Geometric designs, etc..
Later on I think they started using plain numbers.

Many are struck poorly and don't look like anything at all familiar.
Remington has used insp marks like this going back at least to the Mod 8 semi autos that I am familiar with. Possibly earlier than that.

Ithaca was another US gunmaker that used small geometric and common item marks on insp stamps to ID inspectors on gun parts,,bbls usually.

The stamp/mark would be reassigned to another inspector when one would retire or otherwise leave the company.

Proof houses often do the same with their inspector stamp marks.

Thank you very much 2152hq. I kept questioning myself about the two "A" marks being so sloppy, but I couldn't make them into any other valid Remington stamp, especially for the month. Thanks again.

AA indicates March 1954. The 513 was made from 1940 to around the mid-1960s, so that date would fit. Years ago I coached a junior rifle team for about five years. We had, as I remember, six military 513-T rifles that I think came from DCM. We shot at the local Navy Reserve center's 50' rifle range. Lots of fun for the kids.
