Help for an M&P 9

Bought a used 9 from Buds. Picked it up yesterday. Inspected it, complete with take down at the shop before bringing it home. It was crusty dirty.

Here's my question; When I brought it home, went to take it down, locked the slide, tripped the sear release, flipped the take down lever. Then when I released the slide, the take down lever flipped back up. Tried it again. The take down lever will stay down, until I release the slide, then it immediately flips back up.

I know this isn't normal, as with my other M&P's, the lever stays down. What's missing or wrong that this happens? I can take it down, but with special hand contortions.

Ideas?

Sounds just like my M&P's.

I find pinching the barrel and spring guide together prevents it from happening. I really don't find keeping a thumb on the take down lever to be too much trouble either.

Some guns do it and some don't. Yours does.

Like MichiganScott mentioned a thumb against the lever is not that hard to do.

True. Holding a thumb on the TD lever isn't the end of the world.

However, I'm planning on gifting the gun to a family member, and was just wondering if it's a wear issue or if something is maybe missing.

I thought they were all that way until I picked up one new one that stayed put. It's not worn out or broken.

On all of my M&P's, the take down lever stays down with the exception of a used 9 Pro I picked up this spring. It took me by surprise when I went to field strip it at the lgs and the lever kept returning. It only took me a moment to manipulate and hold it with my thumb like mentioned above. I thought the sales guy was going to flip out when I started tearing it down. He was fairly new and apparently had never had anyone do this before
