I wanted to thank you all for the great advise in the first thread-but have to do a 2nd thread. I had settled on one and was trying to buy the one in stock at WM--but they cant find it! The only other one they have that im interested in is:

Dell Inspiron 15. Its $350.

Processor: Intel Inside Core 13.
Operating System: Windows.
Memory: 6GB with 50 GB HDD.
Battery life is 4 hours. Screen is 15 & 1/2 inches.
Model Nr? I 15RV-1334 BLK 552199375.

What do y'all think of this one? If not liked? I guess ill have to go to Best Buy--a play I cant stand.

The 50 GB HD is the killer. You can use that much on just the basics of files.

BTW, check the specs again, that seems low for puter with 6GB of memory.

I'm gonna go out on a limb and say its a typo and the puter has 500 Gig hard drive, not 50. And that's just a quick interweb googly. Also, I believe its an i3 processor, not 13.

I actually like the OPs choice. I've had a Dell and I liked it. It was a company computer so I didn't get to customize or keep it when I left, but it worked great for me while I had it.

Ringo, depending what you intend to do on it "I think it's a fine choice". If you are a huge online gamer and do huge graphics work it may fall short. But if you're looking for a home computer to do basic stuff it'll work well.

Avoid BB at all costs is my motto.

Ringo, if the store doesn't have one in stock that you really want order it on line and they will ship it directly to your house. 2 or 3 days as the most. We have even gotten some things next day if we ordered it early enough.

I suggest you hold out for what you want. If you get one you don't really want or don't know anything about you will hate it and be miserable the entire time you have it. Go to a different WM or order it on line you'll be glad you did. Even a good one comes with lots of problems and stupid stuff. Take the extra step...wait the extra day...You can thank me later.
Good luck amigo!

Thank you. and just got back from checking--its whats printed on the info slip. I did makea slight error--its 500 and not just 50. Ididnt bother with writing down on whats on two other computers because the guy said they were about to redo that section and supposedly newer computers are about ome in (but I was told that back in March when I started looking after my dell died.

Thanks very much and, it was my error. The info on those tags is so tiny its hard for me to read.It was 500 and not 50. :-))

Thats about it--just basic stuff and one exception, is I wuld like ti to play the three disc games I have whih are: Talonsoft's: Eastern front (i picked this game up 14 years ago.

SidMeiers: Civil War (I picked that one up about 13 years ago, and finally: Age of empires II--which I picked up about 5 years ago. Other that that, if I play any onine games? they are from places like: Armor Games, and Free Internet Games. I dont do those other types liek: World of Tanks and stuff like that.

Thank you Jack and, Iwill wait awhile longer. Im going to be doing some searching this afternoon before going home, and also during the weekend. thankfully, I at least have enough to get one now without breaking into the piggy bank--which i try not to-since its Shastas emergency pet are money. :-))

Oh and, on the other advice aove--I am staying away from Best Buy. Ive never found any real deal there-and all their prices are at leat 30% higher than WMs.

I migh even wait till 1st week of August--in case I need a bit more for a better one.

For $350 you won't find much that's better than that build. 6gb of RAM is likely excessive but you definitely want too much RAM than too little. The number thing to improve is an SSD for the OS only, really helps boot times but if this is a budget machine it may not be worth it.

The games you are interested in will work just fine on that machine. The new intel chips with the integrated graphics will play most older games very well especially since the resolution on the screen is not 1080p.

Ringo, my two cents is that when you are able to do so, you also invest in a portable hard drive to use as a backup. They're getting awfully inexpensive these days; I've seen drives that had a terabyte of storage (1,000 GB, double the size of the hard drive on the laptop you mentioned) for less than a hundred bucks. Considerably less. I paid $59.99 after rebate for mine at Staples two years ago. It's incredibly cheap insurance for your files.

Its more than adequate for those games. Have you tried reinstalling the operating system?

Sorry it took so long to reply--I wasnt online all yesterday.

I dont have any computer yet? so can install anything.I first tried to get that Acre i talked about in the first thread but--they cant fin the computer they say they have in stock-so I tried for this one-they show they have several--in the warehouse--cant find them.

Today I spent 2 hra using library computers to try looking--but they are so slow I accomplished nothing. Imhoping to get more done tomorrow.
Anyway, thank you and im hoping it not too new to play thse games. If so? then ill spend money getting the otherlap top up--just for that purpose.

Im now having to think of going up to about $450--and I dont wat to. Now its both computers im interested in-show they are in stock in store-and they cant find either of them.:rolleyes: I wasall set on getting one on Monday--then Tues then Wed-nothing new last two days. I havent even checked today. They say they are about to redo the electronics Dept--they said that starting in Jan--doesnt take over 6 months to redo a small department.

anyway, thankyou and that sounds very encouraging to me. My last resort is to egt one built for my tastes froma place in Austin called: Mr. Notebook--since its all or mostly from use stuff.

Which version Windows?

I'd INSIST on Windows 7 (Pro, if they'll throw it in).

Im not sure which windows--whatever it was before the 8.0 and such came out.

I just got finished talking to a guy who I got the original computer from--but didnt do any good as far as letting me know about the games thing, wants me to send it in to do a full chekcup on it. Just from conversation, he's already thinking of at least 4200--an for that price?ill jst toss the machine.

That sounds really good. I was thinking of getting soemthing like that to just save all my faorites and the few photos I have on this one-then toss that machine in the garbage heap. :-)) I think we have a Staples or an office Max on the way home and thinkill go look there this afternoon.

I think it's time to go for another walk, you might come home with enough to buy an Apple.:)

Plenty of budget laptops here and some nice sales prices too.

Another $20 off if you order today. Free shipping. No tax. Just pick one and be done with it.
