Hello to all from Montenegro.
I destroyed my 686 , but I will wait that you guys confirm that first.
I had a scratch on the barrel of my gun , i I tryed to buff it out , using 2000 sand paper.
Insted , I will have to go to gunsmith , but I think that I will never archive original finish back.
What do you guys say?
Also , while using 2000 sand paper , did I remove much material????
Did I destroy my gun?

It is polished on one side and unpolished on other , so it is ugly.
Also , when I do polishing with 2000 grit paper , from up to down , it looks ok , but when i polish it as people say , from left to right , it is full of some wawes dont know to say that , and it is ugly.
When I bought it , it had some great looking brused look.
Can that be restored.
Is my beloved 686 lost?

Relax its easy if you follow my directions .Buy a 3M Red/Brownish metal finishing pad. This will break the surface to give you a uniformed brush finish. Just follow the original lines. This will leave a frosted finish which you can tone down by using some Flitz cream. You need a Metal finishing pad and not a pot scrubber to do the job right.

And what do you mean by folow the lines?
What do I need to do with them.
And send me the link of them can you?

I'm afraid you'll need to send that piece of **** to me now.

All is not lost. You did NOT do any permanent damage. That is the beauty of stainless steel. You can achieve the uniform finish you desire. Looking at your photos it appears that the only thing needed to do is get some metal polishing compound (Flitz or something similar), a soft cotton rag, and gently "rub out" the area where the 2000 grit scratched the surface. This may take some time. Be patient.

You say all is not lost , but is anything lost.

Use some Flitz. It should clean that up. 2000 grit sand paper is way too coarse.

Way to coarse meaning what?
Could he damage the fit of the gun?
The tolerance?
Thiknes?

And one more thing , filtz is for polish , i dont want polish , i want a brushed look that smith have

The only thing that is lost, is the ability for you to state that you are a Gunsmith.

You need to get the materials and or Flitz polish and get to work,
with strokes in the direction of the bore line or barrel.

Take it to a gunsmith and have them refinish it for you and leave it alone. Having tools doesn't make someone a mechanic, nor does it make them a gunsmith. Leave gunsmithing work for a professional because your lack of the proper equipment and knowledge will only make matters worse.
