Years ago the leather sheath for my K bar rotted away, it was left in a storage unit due to a divorce. After I remarried, the knife was kept in our kitchen cabinet where the kids couldn't see it for over 30 yrs. Now, I keep it in a kitchen drawer and use it for a letter opener. It still gives me peace of mind, as well as a couple of German Shepherds. I have always want to replace the sheath but never could find one. I am wondering if any of our resident holster makers would be able to help me out. I think the blade is about 5 1/2 inches long. The original sheath was all leather with a strap for the handle. If anyone is able to help me I will take a picture of the knife lying on a tape measure if that helps. Thanks.

Dennis, K-Bar sheaths are a dime a dozen (well, about $10 a pop) all over the internet. See the link Muley Gil posted and you'll see you can even get one with the US Navy emblem if you'd like.

Ka-Bar still makes the knife and should be able to provide a sheath. If you want something nicer, the knife magazines have ads from custom sheathmakers.

Older (WW II) Ka-Bars usually have slimmer handles than recent ones. But the handle strap should fit well enough, and if the handle is slimmer, at least you won't have to stretch the strap to get it to close.

Many of these knives were actually made by Camillus, which is now out of business, although I think somone bought the name and is having knives made in China. What does your blade say? All knives of this govt. pattern should fit the same sheaths.

Your blade length troubles me. If it is that short, you may not have a real Ka-Bar, but the aircrewman's knife. Ontario makes it still, I think. Call them for a sheath. Does your knife have saw teeth on top?

Uusally, the first stop for a spare sheath is the maker, if still in business.

I think you'll pay a lot less than I'll have to to buy a sheath for a Puma Trail Guide...
