Help identify my gun

Hello to all, I am a new member trying to help a retired Illinois cop identify his revolver. I didn't want to go to a gun shop. I figured there are many knowledgeable members here. This is what I can see:

It is a fixed sight, nickel plated, 1 7/8" bbl. 5 screw, 38 special.
Serial number is: 43166. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Welcome! If it is a 5-shot and there is no letter in front of the serial number (and the number is from the flat bottom of the grip frame), this is an early Chiefs Special, likely from 1952. They are uncommon in nickel finish and I agree we really need to see photos .

Ron B and Murphy Dog. Thank you both. I will try to post pictures tomorrow. I can tell you that the grips are not original and the exterior is quite worn, but presentable. Thank you for the information you both provided.
