Could be a 44 Combat Magnum, 3-inch barrel, round butt, combat style stocks made of Goncalo alves. Lew Horton ordered two hundred in 1985.

What he said. I'm guessing the ship date to be July 1985, maybe June. Pics would be nice! :)

Thank you all for your response and guidance. I bought this piece a couple of years back and it came with a DeSantis #44 holster. Sure like this holster as a cross-draw. So now this is my carry gun for hunting and general purpose. After shooting the Mod 57 for 30 years this piece is like a comfortable pair of shoes. I don't know what the significance of 29-3 means. Does this pertain to a particular generation or particular configuration of the Mod 29? While the bluing reflects the amount of time in the holster, the bore is very clean and shows little wear. Nelson Ford has performed his trigger job and tune-up to the piece as well. I do not have the box.

Will those factory grips accommodate the aluminum speed loaders? This gun came with Hogue mono-grip in rubber but i prefer wood grips. If not factory any suggestions on brand and or design type??
