I think I have a Military and Police fourth change but some things don't seem right. No S&W on side plates adjustable sights six inch barrel.

You have a Military & Police Target. Prior to the 1921 era as no "Made in USA" on the right side of the frame.

Probably from around 1920. Does it have a serial number?

No S&W on side plates

There was a time after WWI when the monogram was missing. This gun likely falls into that range. The serial number would confirm this.

Many S&W's built and or shipped in 1919 and 1920 do not have a S&W logo.

That would put it as probably shipping in mid-1919. That's why there are no S&W logos. S&W dropped stamping logos during WWI and didn't resume until sometime in 1920.

Does it have the tall thin front sight?

This gun has a seldom-seen (but not rare) variant of the rear sight assembly. The sight leaf (or spring) is sprung upwards. The screw in the rear pulls the rear sight leaf down, for the elevation adjustment. On all the other variants, the sight leaf is sprung down, and the adjustment screws push it up.

I agree about Mike's post. I passed one up not long ago because the sight looked like this, and I thought it was aftermarket.
