Hello, Please help me identify the model and year of a firearm i picked up recently,
It is a 38 S&W Special 5 screw fixed sight hand ejector with sn on butt being 187XXX

Welcome to the forums from the cotton and peanut covered plains of the Wiregrass! It sounds like a .38 Military & Police from around 1912. However, if there is a letter prefix to those numbers like a S, C, D, K, then it could be much newer. The letter may be separated from the numbers. Welcome to the Forum. If it looks like the one below shown in the company 1912 catalog, it is a 38 Military, 3rd Change made from 1909 to 1915. Military & Police name came into being around 1914. Serial number range for this model was from 146,000 to 241,703. Your K frame revolver likely shipped in 1912. They were available in both round-butt and square-butt. The round- butt could be called a Model 1902 and the square-butt was the Model 1905.
