Help Identifying .32 Long S&W

I have on old S&W that I bought @ a gun show several years ago & haven't been able to determine model & year. It's a round grip, 5 screw J or I frame, .32 Long, w/a 4" barrel. With the cylinder open the numbers 6080 are visible & stamped on the frame. The SN 28304x is stamped on the face of the cylinder & the bottom of the grip frame. There are a series of Patent dates stamped along the top of the barrel, no S&W logo is stamped on either side of the frame. It has fixed sights w/ a half-moon shaped front sight blade. The double diamond service grips are, I think, original to the gun.

The gun itself is in good 85-90% condition & shoots but it's not very accurate. If I weren't photo challanged I'd post some pics.

Any help identifying model & age of this S&W will be appreciated.

It's a .32 Hand Ejector. If it has a strain screw, it's an I frame; with no strain screw, it's an Improved I frame.

The .32HE was switched to the J frame in 1962, but your serial number is too low, the patent dates would be gone, and it would have a ramp front sight.

I'm thinking the gun is prewar, but I'll have to look up the serial number later to be sure.

Not sure what a strain screw is, but if it's on the inside of the grip frame & adjusts the mainspring tension, it has one.

I neglected to mention the SN is also stamped on underside of the barrel, & there are black washers on the grips.
