Hello fellow S&W enthusiast!

I need help. I don't have a clue what the following gun is, it's "story" and what it may be worth. Does anyone know?

Some background: This is being sold to me from a gentleman who in-law just died. I have not handled the firearm and only have these two pictures to go by. I've looked though the entire S&W book and can't find anything that looks like it.

The magazine in the picture is marked 40 S&W.

The serial number is PCE0020 and there are no model or Performance Center markings on it.

I've purchased another firearm from this gentleman that turned out to be a "Stocking Dealer" Performance Center firearm. Apparently, his in-law had some very interesting S&W's in his safe.

Any help on identifying the firearm, information on its background (stocking dealer, limited run, custom, etc) and it's potential worth would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

PCE0020.......

PC....... Performance Center

0020 .....20th gun in the run.

E ......no clue........maybe just so they can use the PC and run numbers over and over again!

3 of my 4 from the early/mid 90s have no "model markings".......just serial #s and PC seal. Trying to remember what the SD-9 has.....

Sweet gun...I'd like it.....but... to bad it's not a 9mm.....LOL

What biggbbruce said.........call

Check for the PC bushing.........

I was guessing Performance Center as well. However, all of my PC models have the PC seal/emblem on them. All I have to go by are the two pictures. No box, no labels, etc. I do not have the firearm in my possession so I can't check the bushing.

I believe there is one of these that is either VERY similar or... exactly the same, in a live auction on that big auction site. It has been re-listed over and over for at least the last six weeks. He hasn't yet gotten a bite at the prices he's listed.

His also has the compensator, but I'll warn you that his pictures are lousy. I have a difficult time wrapping my head around someone that hopes to sell a (mostly) unknown and likely rare handgun... for a price that reflects both of those... and can't find a grandson or some local teenager that can take a few pictures with an iPhone that are light years better than what he has shown. Your pictures are terrific in comparison.

His pistol has some script lettering on it (looks tacky) and yours appears to be a better looking handgun.

Awesome looking. Must have high value. Is it a special model 4006 made for Lew Horton by the performance shop?

I'm pleased with the responses and feedback. Looks like I'm getting closer to finding the particulars of this firearm that I'm about to acquire.

Thanks Sevens for information about another possible "like" one being auctions. Can you provide me that link so that I can check it out? I'm 100% confident that this is NOT the same one. The guy I am dealing with is fair and honest.

Thanks 03Fatboy (and yes we have discussed two of your semi S&W's in the past - you have a great collection). The picture you sent of the Lew Horton was awesome and I am amazed where people find this stuff!

I am curious, as others have asked, if this is a modified 4006.

If I get more pictures from the gentleman selling it me, or when I eventually get the firearm in my possession (thanks California...), I'll post more details about it.

HI KEVCON, I recognize your handle from another local forum. Looks like this one, except your safety isn't ambi. Lew Horton may be able to confirm your serial number and provide a little more information. Good Luck

Check out the grips in the big picture........ some of the rare and elusive fake wood grain........????

Yep, looks to be a "Compensated 40" from the Performance Center for Lew Horton's. Info in member skjos's spreadsheet of Third Gen PC guns shows serial number range PCE 0001 to 0240. Check with Earl Minot at Lew Horton's and he can confirm serial number as being among those that came through there. [email protected]. Nice gun!
