This worn out beauty was carried by my great grandfather on the railroad in in Somerset, KY. It's a 32 S&W, 3", nickel, with pearl stocks (left side ear broken), and the SN# is 124796* (the * is a star) and the SN on the cylinder matches. I am unsure of the nickel plating was original as most of the inscriptions are rather worn, filled, or a combination of both. I would love any info you may have on it, as to what variation it is, when it was made etc.

Thank you in advance!

It's a 2nd Model that probably shipped around 1904. The star on the butt indicates factory rework and it may have a date stamp on the left side of the grip frame ("1.13" would be January of 1913). I believe the MOP stocks are aftermarket.

You need to order a factory letter. That will tell you where it shipped to and the date of shipment.

Letter Process - Smith & Wesson Historical Foundation

If the date under the stocks is between 1920 and 1967, the SWHF may have further information as to the work done. But you would need the factory letter first .
