So I got this from a friends estate and am trying to figure what it is. It is a 38 cal heavy barrel. I noticed that the serial # on the bottom of grip doesnt match what I see where the cylinder is marked on the inside 10-6. Any help would be appreciated. I am getting rid of it but want to be accurate as to what it is. Since the numbers are different does that mean cylinder was replaced? Any help would be greatly appreciated..Year of manufacture? There is slight freckling on right side near hammer. What would a FAIR price be for a pistol like this.?

The s/n on the bottom (not sides) of the grip frame is the "official" s/n. Sometimes the grips have to be removed to see it. If there is a s/n near the model number it would be on the crane, which is part of the frame. Some guns will not have a s/n on the crane. Any number on the yoke, which can easily be detached from the gun, is NOT a s/n. A gun made since about 1983 would have a s/n composed of three letters followed by four numbers. Not gaps or spaces. Older s/n's used a different format, often a few numbers, a letter "K", and a few more numbers.

Just posted some pics to help. Not sure if I posted in right section as I have NO CLUE how old it is.TIA

It's a model 10, it's the 6th revision in the Model 10 series, looks to be in good shape $550 depending on where you live.

It's a model 10-6.The number on the bottom of the grip frame is the serial #.The number in the yoke is an assembly number. It was made in '71-'72.

Thanks guys for the help. Going to PX for what it is..Thanks again

I think $550 is high. I looks to be in good serviceable condition, honest wear, crack & chipped stocks, dropped on the front sight, a little rust freckling on the side plate, wear on the high points and sharp edges, but no major dings or scratches.

I think $350 to $400 is fair for a M10-6 in that condition with no box.

Appreciate that.. I will reduce the price accordingly..Tx Jim

Hi Wags, please understand that the prices quoted by the folks above, knowledgeable people they, are NOT the price a dealer will offer you. Regret there is no way you can see yourself keeping it; a Model 10 is a firearm every gun aficionado should have. Best wishes.
