Help IDing this gun, value

So, what would you guys say this model is? How about an approximate value in working order and shootable condition? I do know it's .38 caliber. Thanks in advance...

It's about a $150 gun, if it works, from what I can see. It's a .38DA. What's the serial number? Ed

I don't have it yet, I just won it on an auction sight. I did ask for the serial number to be sent via email by the seller, so I may get it sometime today.

Serial number is 21939X. Does this help in any way;? If anyone knows an approximate date of manufacture that would be great. Thanks in advance for any help.

This is a 3rd model, and the SN puts it in the middle of the 1884-1895 shipping range, so midway through this period would be about right.

Thanks for the info. So, according to what I have read about antique firearms (prior to 1898), I can get this sent straight to me instead of having to use a FFL? Is this correct, or am I misinformed?

Yes, if the seller is or can be convinced that it was made prior to 1898, it can be shipped directly to you. The published information suggests this is the case.

You do know this is 38 S&W, not 38 Special. They are two distinctly different calibers.

Yes sir. Not crazy about the prices I've found on .38 S&W either. Might be a "shot very seldom" gun, just for fun every once in a while.

It's actually pre-1899, so anything from 1898 or earlier is an antique and unregulated. The cutoff SN for the S&W .38 DA is 382,002.
