I'm looking for a range gun that I can possibly take for competitions in the future.

Here is my dilemma.. my original choice was going to be a G34 or an M&P9L because I wanted to maximize with a 5" barrel.

I shoot both a Glock and M&P equally well, but certain factors made me favor the M&P.

Unfortunately in California, the M&PL is not on the roster (neither is the Pro)... so what its coming down to is that the M&PL will cost probably $150-$250 more than a G34 for me to obtain it (singleshot conversion, FFLs, etc). So this lead me to open the possibility of just settling with a regular full size M&P9.

What do you guys think? Worth the extra cost to go long? Should I just get a G34?

I shot drills, on the clock, pitting my 34 against my 9mm Pro, and my 35 against my .40 M&P and was really surprised to find out that the M&Ps were faster, and more accurate, while on the clock, for ME. Especially knowing that my Glocks are slightly more accurate off the bench.

If you shoot them both the same, I'd say to go with the Glock. There are a ton more parts/accessories available for them as compared to the M&Ps.

Why not buy a G17 and then buy a Glock 34 upper?

You have both then.
