Hey guys:

This is my midsize M&P 45 and I just noticed this dimple on my sear. I don't know if it was there before.

Can you guys check yours and let me know?

I'd really appreciate it. The pistol has 320 rds through it and no problems.

Just a blemish and shouldn't effect functionality.
If you just can't bare to look at it, et an apex replacement.

Robzguns:

The more I looked around on this forum, I found a couple of posters that stated the latest sears purposely have the divot on the barrels and sears.

Can anyone else backup this claim?

MY M&P Core was made on January 7, 2016.

It doesn't have any dimple in it. But I'm going to yank it out and replace it with an Apex sear as soon as I get it.

I don't see how yours would hurt anything. But you are welcome to mine after I pull it out and replace it with the Apex.

My shield's sear is smooth

I just installed the Apex trigger kit a few weeks ago and I'm really happy with it but I did keep the Smith trigger spring exactly what I wanted. Not that the trigger was bad just didn't want a 6.5 - 7# pull.

I've been reading about the install and I plan on retaining my existing trigger spring as well.

BTW, I've been hugely disappointed with my Pro C.O.R.E. trigger. I don't think the trigger pull is a bit better than the standard model. It is about 6 1/2 pounds and gritty I think.

It is nothing like either of my Sig's triggers. I hope this Apex kit takes care of my dissatisfaction.

I had to go look at my 9c sear after reading this lol. Yeah mines got the dimple too though 400 rounds and no problems.

I checked my M&P40FS (purchased in 2012) ... the sear does not have the dimple.

I have the dimple on my compact, but not on my full size or Shield. The store I purchased from had two other compacts with the dimple. It almost looks like a spot weld mark. Either way, mine ran just fine until I also put an apex kit in it. :)

That part of the sear is not an active surface. The trigger bar engages the other side of the sear while the striker only contacts the back edge. Since the stock sear is a surface hardened MIM part, it's likely that non-critical surfaces aren't perfect. Chances are the 'dimple' is caused by the manufacturing process and is of no concern.

My Oct 15 M&P9 full size has the distinctive mark on it. It does not appear to be a blemish, but rather something S&W put there on purpose. The shape of the bearing surface of this sear, where the trigger bar's metal loop contacts it, is very similar to the Apex sear.

I just checked my 45c. It's about two years old, and does not have the dimple.

As others have said, it's probably just a manufacturing mark, and shouldn't cause problems.

Hardness test for MIM sear would be my guess, and yes, my pistols have them.
